Transfers:
I'm leaving Jardim Ingáaaaaa. It'll be good, but it is always a bit sad leaving everyone behind. I'll be going to Gama Centro: back to Brasilia it is! I've never met my new comp, but I've heard really good things about him. He got to the mission a transfer before me, so we're both fairly new on the mission. It'll be fun to have an American companion again.
Milagres and news:
A random miracle that was just wonderful this week: we had gotten to the chapel before church on Sunday and were outside greeting people when this older man on a motorcycle came in and said he had passed this church many many times for many many years and always wanted to know what it was like inside and what the meeting was lkke. Finnally he passed by on Sunday when we have church, and decided to come in. He talked with us a bit and afterwards he said he will Definitely be coming back next Sunday and has a lot of questions. And then also we had the opportunity to go to the temple this past week, it was just a great experience as always.
People and the work:
Okay so we've got some wonderful people that we're teaching and who are coming to church with us and everything. It's been an absolutely wonderful week, e bem corrida também. Maria and Marcos are still liking our visits and messages about Christ, but, unfortunately, weren't able to come to church this last Sunday, but that is just okay. Samuel wasn't able to come to church this past Sunday, even though his baptism was scheduled, life does happen at times. But, all will work out and he'll be getting baptized this coming Sunday. Then with Arthur and Daphne, the two young siblings: they're gonna get baptized this coming Sunday too! They're just so excited and loved being in church yesterday, it truly was touching to see how much they felt the spirit. And then Danilson, the man on the motorcycle, is very interested in learning more about the church, too. All in all, it has been an amazing week for certain.
Menu:
This past week I was in a cooking mood, and it was a good one. I've made cookies twice (peanut butter cookies 🔛🔝), pizza (two of them) with sausage, and pasta with calabresa and pineapple, and I've made oats with peanut butter, protein, and orange slices. Needless to say, it's been a good week as far as food, too. (And on the wallet, it's a lot cheaper to make food).
Spiritual thought:
This week I had been thinking of something that happened at a new members house. On his lot, he has two houses. Well, one house and a half because he has the house he's living in and one that he's building: or has been building, for about five years. Everytime he goes to work on the house, something happens. Something. He put half the roof on, and during that week there was a crazy wind that tore it off. He put up a wall and then a tree fell and cracked most of the bricks. Something of the sort just happens. And so when we went there Sunday night, we offered to dedicate the house so that the Holy Ghost could more easily be there, and that if there were anything there, it would leave. We kneeled down in the red dirt in middle of the lot and my companion offered a dedicatory prayer/blessing through the Priesthood (More about this in a sec) and when he had finished "in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen", everything felt different. There was a peace there that hadn't been before. A calming feeling fell over us, even though we hadn't realized that we hadn't been calm beforehand. All of this because of the Priesthood. But, Elder Hyatt, what is the Priesthood? Good question. The word priesthood ,as explained explained by the Church of Jesus Christ, has two meanings. "First, priesthood is the power and authority of God. It has always existed and will continue to exist without end. Through the priesthood, God created and governs the heavens and the earth. Through this power, He exalts His obedient children, bringing to pass 'the immortality and eternal life of man.' Second, in mortality, priesthood is the power and authority that God gives to man to act in all things necessary for the salvation of God’s children. The blessings of the priesthood are available to all who receive the gospel." (Topics and Questions: Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). In short, the Priesthood is the power that God has to do all that He does, and also the power and authority He has given to man to act in His name. In 1829, Joseph Smith received a visit by Peter, James, and John and was given the priesthood in the same way as they were given, and thus we have the priesthood on the Earth again today. I testify that this Holy power is given to men of God to bless His children just as is explained above. I know that God truly does all things in wisdom and love for His children, and that He truly loves you. Yes, you. I know these things to be true. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Love!
-Elder Hyatt
