My goodness does goes love His children yall. Good news week to yall!
News:
We had baptisms. It was awesome. Almost didn't, but God is good. While we were filling up the baptismal font, the water in the chapel all stopped. Nothing. Gone. Dryer than my humor. We were filling up buckets of water from the institute building behind the church and slowly, ever so slowly, filling the font. About an hour before the baptism, we decided to just pray. Not hardly 5 minutes after the prayer we found the solution to the problem and filled the font the rest of the way up. Miracles absolutely do happen. And then Katharyna and Verlandio were baptized.
França:
First Brasilian companion, lets gooooo. He's a pretty great missionary, but one thing about a lot of Brasilian missionaries in our mission is that they work, just not necessarily work very hard. So while, pf course, he speaks and teaches very well, I have to be the one to get us out of the house on time, or him out of bed on time, or stop people to talk on the street. But we'll get him there. And then it'll be just baptisms from here on out.
The work:
Asa Sul is blessed land I'm sure of it now. We have a bunch of people we're teaching that are really progressing and really loving the gospel. It is just absolutely amazing to see and be a part of thos marvelous work that's taking place all over the world, but especially here in Brasil. And without the people none of it would be possible.
Pessoas:
First of, shout out to Irmão (brother) James who is an absolute dawg of a member and fixed the water in the chapel, he's awesome. And now the rest of the people. So this week we baptized Katharyna and Verlandio. Verlandio lived on the streets for about 22 years, but now has a house on earth and in Heaven. Katharyna is 24 and has a neighbor who is absolutely hilarious. Her name is Francisca and she's like 70 years old. She met the missionaries like 30 years ago and now that she found the church again she said she was 100% going to vet baptized. She also broke like 4 ribs when she fell off of a trampoline like 8 months ago. She's full of surprises. And then Marques has been coming to church with his great uncle, he loves the church and said he wants to get baptized this Sunday, and so his uncle is gonna be able to baptize him. These people and so many more are just so ready to except God into their lives because they truly feel the love that God has for them and they comfort the Holy Ghost brings (more in spiritual thought.)
Menu:
Hands down I'm so grateful for Asa Sul. Elder França was in a lot more humble and simple of a place before coming here this transfer, and he keeps talking about how good the food is here, and I second that. There isn't a member who doesn't know now to cook really well, or make desserts really well. And there's always plenty of options, too, when it comes to buying food to make at home. I've been blessed with another companion who knows how to cook, and so Elder França and I take turns making dinner and breakfast and it's a pretty good arrangement of I do say so myself.
Spiritual thought:
So of course this past week I've been thinking a lot about the people we're teaching and how truly marvelous their conversion stories are: how very much the Spirit of the Lord works with us missionaries to help the people we teach. I was just thinking about how I'm just a 19 year old from Kansas in the middle of Brasil trying to speak português to people on the street, and just that is enough for them to get baptized. It doesn't make sense, if it were just that. I may just be a random 19 year old from the middle of nowhere Kansas, but I certainly am not alone. Jesus Christ gave this following promise in John 14: "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." He promised that the Holy Ghost will remain with us, and it is "by the power of the Holy Ghost that ye may know the truth of all things". (Moroni 10:5). There are certainly times on the mission where you just feel inadequate, feel like you're not enough, and by yourself you're not. Without the guiding, comforting power of the Holy Ghost you can't do anything. The Holy Ghost truly testifies of Christ and His Father, our Heavenly Father. It's through Him that we feel the love our Father in Heaven has for us. And that Love is Infinite. And I love y'all too! I sure hope y'all have a wonderful week and feel free to write me any time!
Até mais meus amigos!
